Litestrider Introduction Empty
PostSubject: Litestrider Introduction   Litestrider Introduction EmptyMon Nov 03, 2008 9:34 am

Hello, I'm Litestrider!

I'm new to the game, I've only been playing for about a month and a half so far. I'm really happy to have found this LS, because I have a great deal of interest in the pet classes, but no one I know so far seems to know much about them, and there also seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around. My highest pet class is PUP 18, and my highest class overall is RDM 30, which I achieved mostly to unlock my other classes. I don't really consider myself to have a main class at this point, because I tend to take things a bit slower and play whatever interests me on a particular day, or change classes as the situation calls for it. Unless something fundamentally changes for the worse in the upper levels, however, I'm pretty sure I love all the pet classes.

As far as Zilart and CoP, I haven't started either of those. I did ToAU 1 and 2 (I think) when I went to unlock COR and PUP, so I could use my Mog Locker and teleport to Al Zhabi.

My time zone is EST (GMT -5)

I haven't been playing long, but I thought it was pretty entertaining when I went to unlock COR and PUP. I did it solo with sneak and invis, and after taking quite a while and avoiding all the imps on the way to and from Arrapago Reef, I decided I was home free. There were only a few hundred feet between me and Nashmau, and sneak and invis were still going strong. I began happily dashing toward town, and rounded a corner, right into another imp. He was hiding there just for me, way out of the standard imp spawn areas.

There was also the time when I was duoing with a friend as RDM, and I accidentally hit Chainspell. We had just killed an orc, and we started to panic. He started saying "we have to find something to nuke! Let's find something fast!", and we started dashing around frantically. Of course, this happens to be the time when that entire quadrant of the zone is completely empty. We finally found some ill-fated funguar to nuke into a fine powder just before it ran out.

I've only played this game for about a month and a half, but you might say I'm something of an MMO veteran. I started playing Asheron's Call right when it came out in '99. I took several breaks, but I only quit it recently. I've also given repeated trials to Ultima Online, though it just never quite caught me, and a short (very short) trial of Everquest. I still play Anarchy Online and Lord of the Rings very occasionally, mostly because they're free to me (froob account on AO, and a special deal in LoTR). I played Eve for several months. It's a really wild game that does a lot of wonderful things, unfortunately, the point where it fails is in the action. I still consider going back every once in a while just for the economic and crafting games.

I only got FFXI recently because my friend (Revalus in game) resubscribed. I was really convinced to come back by Level Sync. It's a great concept, and makes things a lot more pleasant, even if the execution isn't perfect. The game as a whole is a lot of fun, and I plan on playing for quite a while.

I have a question about pet classes in general to start off with. Could someone explain how the xp penalties for pets work? From my understanding, all pets gave a penalty at one point, then SE removed the penalties for at least TW-EM BST pets. How do the other pets affect xp and party xp, if they do at all?

IN A NUTSHELL: Party EXP is determined by the highest member of the party. If you charm a pet higher than EM the monster is technically 1 or more levels than you are and your exp will be calculated accordingly. Prior to an update a pet would effect the experience of the BST only, but that is no more.

Pets do not effect xp for other party members unless the charmed monster is a level higher than the highest member in your party.
